The Verivue Curtain Opens

As my bio explains, I’m a member of technical staff at Verivue. If you ever visited the old Verivue website or heard me speak at conferences over the past couple years, you’ll know we divulged no details of what we’re developing. Our old website showed just a curtain that was barely cracked open with a light shining through, and what little text the website presented was intentionally vague. If only I had a dollar for each time I found myself in a conversation where everyone was trying to guess what we were doing!

Well, guess no more — our new website and the following articles provide the details:

Now you know. :-)

Hey Steve, are any of Verivue’s products built with Erlang? If yes, would love to hear about experience with the language, especially in embedded development environments.

    Hi Steve.

Congratulations to you all on coming out! We would be interested in hearing how Erlang and some of your prior experiences are being put to good use and improved at Verivue.

    Cheers,

    Darach.

    Steve,

Congrats on the unveiling. Great website!

Do I understand correctly this is like an appliance for video streaming?

    Eric

@Mighty: yep, there’s some Erlang in the box. All in all it’s the best language I’ve ever used for production software, by far. As I’ve said on numerous occasions before, I wish I would have found Erlang years earlier.

@Darach: thanks — I’m sure I’ll have much more to say about Erlang and things I’ve learned here in future blog entries.

@Eric: thanks. “Appliance” makes it sound like a toaster! ;-) Video streaming, or more generally, media serving, is part of what it does, but as the articles describe, it also intelligently distributes and manages content across the network, it’s “green” because it consumes far less power and rack space than systems with similar capacities, and it allows operators to reach TV screens, computer screens, and mobile screens seamlessly, which is exactly what more and more customers are demanding.

    @Patrick and @Jesus: thanks!

    Hi Steve:
In verivue’s website, there is some introduction about the MDX9200, where can i find the datasheet?

    Hi Steve,
The very best of Irish luck with your new venture!

    Regards,
    Sean.

@Aman and @Sean: thanks very much!

@Siphrey: thanks for your interest. The Verivue curtain may have opened, but that doesn’t mean we unveiled every last detail. :-) Publishing everything at once would have been overwhelming for readers and would have muddied our messages. There remains a significant amount of information we’ll be publishing over the next while.

    Hi Steve, congrats!

Since as part of the solution is media delivery over HTTP, it would be great to hear about your experience of applying RESTful principles while developing this solution. I am sure you did :)
